Who was Charley Tigertail?
Did Charlie Tigertail exist, and did we really name a beach after him? No more sleepless nights wondering about this - attend Nancy Olson's presentation of "The History of the Seminole Tribe", hosted by the Friends of Tigertail at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16 at Mackle Park. Nancy Olson is the Senior Park Naturalist for the Collier County Park Ranger Service, Parks and Recreation Department, responsible for developing the educational and outreach programs for the Park Ranger Service. Olson received a BA in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin and has over 25 years of experience in the field of museum management and education. In addition to her museum work, Olson has participated in archaeological investigations in Texas, Arizona, and Florida. She joined the Collier County Park Ranger Service in 2001. Olson will share her extensive research on the Seminole Tribe; her presentation, including local lore, is guaranteed to entertain and inform. The unique confluence of culture and circumstance that would lead to today's Seminole Tribe of Florida can be traced back at least 12,000 years. There is ample evidence that the Seminole people of today are cultural descendants of Native Americans who were living in the southeastern United States that long ago. Olson's presentation includes the fascinating tales of local lore: was Tigertail Beach really named for a Seminole named Charlie Tigertail?
